The Story of Jonathan - In Loving Memory

On  Sunday May 22nd, 2011 around 6 O'clock in the morning, our beloved son of 31 years walked out of our home, never to return.  Minutes later,  parked at a stop light while on his way to work, he was struck from  behind by a drunk driver going 75 miles per hour.

It took Jonathan eight days to die.  What was left of him.  To give meaning to his passing, we donated his major organs to an organ transplant society.

We await justice for our son while the case winds its way through the legal system. Sentencing is scheduled for April 27th 2012.

This blog is dedicated to his life, his tragic death and loved ones  left behind, forced into this nightmare to mourn  and suffer.

Perhaps  it serves  as a way to communicate our thoughts about subsequent events, decisions and acts which have thrust family and friends into  a world of unending pain, and sorrow from which there seems to be no end.

But it also serves as a warning: to the innocent and guilty.  To the innocent - to warn of the seemingly  endless heartache, which will envelop- and if one is not careful- consume your thoughts, and your life.

And the guilty-

Someday someone will stumble  out of a bar drunken, stoned.  Yanking their keys from their pocket they will reach for the car door handle.  Then for some  reason they will stop.

Perhaps it will be because they forgot to tie their shoes, or the need to tell  their drunken friend some unimportant piece of gossip.  But maybe, hopefully, some remaining spark of intelligence or conscience, ignited by reading words such as these, will reach past the  drunken stupor and touch something in their heart.  He/she will turn and walk away from the car to a waiting bus,  to get a lift with a  sober friend, or  to walk off the alcohol poisoning their brains and their conscience.

They will walk away from death.

Someday, God will remember our son, his life and what he sacrificed that others may live.  He will give our son a new body a new mind and a new heart. And through the power of the atonement, he will bring Jonathan forth from the grave filled with life, and he will be restored to us.

Until then, we as his parents are dedicated to preventing the senseless slaughter that has taken so much from us, and tragically has and will continue to thrust the innocent into the awful nightmare  of which I write.

And that, ultimately, is the reason for this website
